Flights

Carbondale, Colorado sits at the base of Mt. Sopris in the Roaring Fork Valley, about 30 minutes downvalley from Aspen. Known for its relaxed mountain-town feel, Carbondale blends stunning scenery, great food, and easy access to hiking, biking, and fly fishing. It’s a vibrant little town with a creative spirit and beautiful views in every direction.

The closest airport is Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, which offers direct flights from several major U.S. cities. You can also fly into Eagle County Regional Airport, Grand Junction Regional Airport or Denver International Airport and drive through the scenic Colorado mountains to reach Carbondale. Rental cars and shuttles are available from all airports.

Flights

Aspen Airport (ASE)

Distance: 45 minutes from Carbondale
We HIGHLY recommend flying into Aspen. It can be pricier, but way easier and a beautiful flight!

Travel Options:
1. Rental Car - easiest because then you can get around!
2. Uber - More limited
3. Local RFTA Bus - take the L Line from the Airport stop to Carbondale Park & Ride stop (you will need to coordinate a ride from there)

Flights

Eagle Airport (EGE)

Distance: 55 minutes from Carbondale
Another great option that is a slightly longer drive but might have more options. Enjoy the drive through beautiful Glenwood Canyon!

Flights

Grand Junction Airport (GJT)

Distance: 1 hour and 40 minutes from Carbondale
Another good option that makes sense for some but not all.

Flights

Denver International Airport (DIA)

Distance: 3 hours and 30 minutes from Carbondale
Another okay option that makes sense for some but not all. Plan for I-70 traffic!

travel notes

Town

Carbondale is a pretty small town, making most distances walkable, bikeable, or just a quick drive. The Downtowner and We-Cycle 30-minute bike stations are two great free options. Be careful not to keep We-Cycle bikes for more than 30 minutes, or they will start to charge you.

Things to do!

Bike the Rio Grande Trail
One of our favorite ways to explore—hop on the bike path and cruise along the river. You can ride into Basalt for the farmers market or go all the way to Aspen if you’re feeling ambitious (it’s worth it).

Mountain Bike – Prince Creek
If you’re into mountain biking, Prince Creek is the spot—flowy trails, unreal views, and a nice climb.

Hike Red Hill
A quick hike with a big payoff—Red Hill has some of the best views in the valley, especially around sunset.

Thomas Lakes Trail
For a bigger adventure, Thomas Lakes is one of the most beautiful hikes in the area—alpine lakes, wildflowers, and unreal views of Mount Sopris at the top. It’s a bit more of a trek, but absolutely worth it.

Spring Gulch
A quiet, easy way to get outside—great for a walk, picnic, or just taking in the scenery.

Penny Hot Springs
These natural hot springs sit right along the river and are perfect for a post-adventure soak.

Avalanche Ranch Hot Springs
For a more relaxed experience, book a soak at Avalanche Ranch. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and feels like a mini escape.

Free Bikes in Town
There are free bikes around town—just download the Transit app to unlock them. First 30 minutes are free, which is perfect for a quick ride.

RVR Golf Course
If you’re up for a round of golf, RVR has incredible views and a very laid-back mountain feel.

Spend a Day in Aspen
Aspen is just down the road and always worth the trip with great food, hikes and always something going on in town. Recommend checking for a Belly Up concert or activities that are happening in town before you head there!

Where To Eat & Drink

True Nature Healing Arts Café
A cozy, wellness-focused café with great coffee, fresh juices, and healthy breakfast options. It’s a beautiful, calming space, perfect for a slow morning.

Ploskys
A local favorite for coffee and a quick bite, known for its bagels, sandwiches, and easygoing vibe. Great for grabbing something casual before heading out for the day.

Casual delicious Thai spot that always hits, perfect for an easy and delicious dinner. One of our favorite places!!

Amara
A go-to for a nicer night out, great food, great atmosphere, and one of our favorites.

Sprazzo
A cute little Italian spot with a great patio—perfect for happy hour or a relaxed dinner.

Fatbelly Burgers
If you’re craving something classic, this is the spot—great burgers, great salads, and super laid-back.

Townline Truck Yard
A fun, casual spot with food trucks, drinks, and live music, perfect for an easy night out with a group.

White House Pizza
A local favorite for casual, no-fuss pizza and comfort food. Has a great patio, and is an easy, reliable spot that’s perfect for a laid-back lunch or dinner with a group.

El Dorado
A moody, speakeasy-style cocktail bar right off Main Street. Great for a drink and a fun night out, especially if you’re around for trivia on Wednesdays or bingo on Thursdays!

Mountain Heart Brewing
A local brewery with great beer. Definitely a tap house vibe but a great place with local people.

Propaganda Pie
A go-to spot hole in the wall spot for pizza and a fun, laid-back atmosphere. It’s located in Redstone, a tiny historic town that’s worth the drive, grab a pie, wander around, and take in the charm of one of the most unique little spots in the valley.
